(top) This is das Zeughaus. Zeug is old German for weapon. So this building, that serves as a museum was once an artillery house. During the Kaiser Reich and NZ weapons were stored here. The architecture is Baroque and yes pink is manly. It is a very impressive building; each warrior mask, and statue is completely unique. It serves mostly as a history museum: From Prussia, Kaiser and Napolean, the Huguenots and Berlin, Erasmus to Martin Luther- and his wife-, Weimarer Republik to the First and Second World Wars, BRD to Wiedervereinigung. It’s all there and more. One of my favorite museums in Berlin! What's great is that if ya look closely, you can see the Fernsehturm (TV tower) in the foggy rainy background. This is all former East Berlin.
(just above) A little of G's homecookin'. Those are Thüringer Brats. Simply amazing really, with good ole fashion kraut, Bauern Brot, Gemüse, Käse and of course a dunkel Franziskaner Weizen Bier! Eating out gets way to expensive; and when it's this easy to make dinner, why go out to eat?
(Below weird house) This is Mathias Rau. Most amazing German I’ve met thus far. His voice is amazing; he was an actor in his earlier BRD years and learned to use his boisterous voice with perfect articulation! Haha This was a walk called Jewish life in Berlin. We made our way around past and present Jewish communities in the city. From Stompel Steinen to the New Synagogue. Very educational and he’s simply fun to listen to. On Thursday he’s sponsoring a bike ride along the former Berlin Wall. I plan to go, hopefully the weather will hold. Though it’s supposed to become colder throughout the week. bummer
These are two separate apartments (houses) under one roof. I guess it’s typical architecture in smaller German towns, says Johannes’ parents. I thought it was interesting. Which reminds me how mad I am that I didn’t get a stinkin’ picture with all of them.
(below) This is a sweet little car called a “Trabbi” or Trabbant. They were really famous cars during the BRD (DDR for all you German speakers out there). For me it’s definitely a historical memorial… on wheels. Oh aha haha- … Pretty cool though. We walked by a big Trabbi car show on a (get out your English/German dictionaries) Spur des Nationalsozialismus Spaziergang.

this blog is a great idea! i am enjoying hearing and SEEING your adventures... please keep it up (and don't even think of letting bad weather get in the way of any bike tour opportunities--as some German told me "es gibt kein schlechtes Wetter, nur schlechte Kleidung!)
