This was taken before we entered and almost never returned from a spontaneous border hopping trip to Poland. It wasn't worth it- But boy oh boy was it an experience. We spent too much money and too much time trying to get the heck outa dodge. After waiting for a train that never showed (I'm guessing) we high tailed it from Slubiche to the next town Frankfort Oder (in Germany) in a taxi with a man that couldn't speak a lick of German or English. All I can say in Polish is "Give me a Kiss" Needless to say, he was not a very attractive man. Nonetheless he didn't understand 'faster please' or 'schneller bitte' so we missed our connection in Frankfurt Oder. And even though we were told that was the last train for the night (which now thinking back probably meant the train in poland to Frankfurt Oder) we figured out how to make it back to civilization.
Inside Olympia Stadion, where we ahd to fight to get our seats and also to stay warm. It was enjoyable even though it was soccer and Herta BC won in a thriller 1-0 !!! in the last couple seconds of the game.
A New Zealand Burger Place in Friedrichshain. Man it was lecker!
Bebelplatz: where the Third Reich burned all books that may have opposed Nazionalsozialismus. Behind us stands St. Hedwigs a church I frequented.
Another Spaziergang Photo. In front of the Altes Museum where one can see Nephratetes. Where we are standing is called the Lust Garten! To the left though you can't see, is the Berliner Dom where I attended an organ concert one night. And to the left though not in the picture is the Zeughaus my favorite museum in Berlin. And in the far far background is the start of one of the most famous streets in Berlin: Unter den Linden, where I would walk to church on weekday evenings. Oh and I'm in the right corner of the picture, you can unfortunately see me.
Spaziergang on an actual beautiful day in Berlin but it was still cold. The problem with a sunny day means no cloud cover to keep the heat in. The problem with a cloudy day means rain. Pick your poison. I say that I look too much like my moms in this photo... weird eh?
Oh that's Marx and Engels- You should know who they are.In front of Olympia Stadion. One of the few buildings left from the Nazi regime and where Jesse Owens owned the '56 (Nazi) Games winning 5 gold medals. As you can see it was a beautiful sunny day with highs around 70 Fahrenheit. That's Erin- the only other guy on the trip- well sort of.
One of the only pictures I have from one of the many museums I visited in Berlin. This is the Hamburger Bahnhof. It was an old train station that Berlin decided to turn into a contemporary art museum. It wasn't my favorite museum but it was interesting nonetheless. This is the Andy Warhol exhibit. Someone asked Warhol once what makes art, art? He responded an artist makes art. And that was the whole theme of this museum- from ancient technique and aesthetics to concept art. Everything here was not at all to the eye very pleasing but the background information was dense, I guess is a good way to put. (Dense like a pile of ...) just kidding!
